About Limewash Studio
A more considered way to transform dated brick, stone and masonry.
Limewash Studio was founded by Igor Srbinovski to bring traditional, hand-applied mineral finishes back to the way Melbourne homes are updated.
We help homeowners, builders and designers soften dated masonry without making the home feel painted, flat or overdone.
Limewash Studio was founded by Igor Srbinovski with a simple belief: not every dated brick or masonry home needs to be painted, rendered or replaced.
In many cases, the original material still has value. It may not be damaged, failing or without character. It may simply need to be softened.
For too long, the default solution for dated brick has been acrylic paint, heavy render or replacement. Sometimes that is the right decision, but often it removes the texture, movement and architectural character that made the masonry worth keeping in the first place.
Limewash Studio exists to offer a more considered alternative — a way to modernise masonry without erasing it.
Why Limewash Studio exists
“The goal is not simply to change the colour of a wall. It is to improve the way the whole home is experienced.”
Igor Srbinovski

The problem with dated masonry
Brick and stone have always carried architectural beauty: texture, variation, depth and material honesty.
But when the colour or finish no longer suits the home, that beauty can become difficult to see.
Red brick can feel too harsh. Orange brick can feel too busy. Brown brick can make a home feel dark and heavy. Old stone cladding can make even a beautiful property feel stuck in another era.
The usual response is to cover it — paint it, render it or replace it.
But those options are not always necessary.
Sometimes the better result comes from working with the masonry rather than hiding it.
Our approach
Surface suitability
We assess the condition, absorbency and suitability of the existing brick, stone or masonry.
Finish direction
We consider the home’s architecture, surrounding colours, texture and desired level of coverage.
Hand-applied finish
Each finish is built by hand in layers so the result feels natural, textured and connected to the home.
This will look far better than a long bullet list.
A note from Igor
I started Limewash Studio because I kept seeing beautiful homes let down by dated brick and masonry. Not because the material was poor, but because the finish no longer suited the home.
Too often, the answer was to paint over it, render it flat or remove it completely. I wanted to offer something more refined - something that respected the masonry rather than hiding it.
Limewash has been used for centuries, but I believe it has a very relevant place in modern Australian design. It allows us to soften harsh brick tones, create natural texture and give older masonry a completely different presence without making it feel like a coated surface.
That is what Limewash Studio is built around: traditional workmanship, natural materials, hand-applied finishes and a respect for the original surface.
The best result is not always the one that looks the most “new”. It is the one that makes the home feel intentional again.
Past Projects
Each project reflects a considered approach to limewash - tailored to the home, its materials, and its surroundings.
From full exterior transformations to interior features, our work is designed to soften, refine, and elevate the character of brick.
Sunbury Exterior Transformation
Transformed with a custom limewash finish - softening heavy tones and elevating the home’s overall street presence.
Estimated $60,000–$80,000 increase in property value (approx. 8–10%), based on agent feedback at sale.
